Android Central Question

Since the update when I select a video link - for example, a Google search result, an NFL game recap, or a video clip in NYTimes - the YouTupe app opens to my home screen but no video, just the ads, trending videos, and suggestions of videos I might like. Those work. As do any videos listed from the YouTube app search bar. I have Android 10 on a Pixel 3. I reset Chrome. I logged out of Google and all associated apps before logging back in. I cleared cache, data, and history. I've restarted the phone. Before I hard reset my phone, what am I missing.

Welcome to Android Central! Go to Settings>Apps, go to the list of all of the apps, tap Menu at the upper right, then Reset App Preferences. Now see what happens if you tap a YouTube link.

Sorry, the interface is a little dodgy on a phone screen. It started on Android 9. I thought maybe I needed to update the operating system so I did that in hopes it would solve the problem but it didn't. I think that maybe the videos are supposed to open in Chrome, instead of the app? But at the moment I can only see a video in YouTube app by entering it in the app search bar.

Yes it does. I feel like the problem is that I need to change a setting somewhere so that when I select a video in search results it just plays in the Google app or browser instead of pointing to the YouTube app. But for some reason I haven't found a way to do that.

You can click under the video and tap share and copy , then go to your browser and paste it there , see what happens
