Android Central Question

I have a 64gb internal storage, and an additional 128gb sd card that is formatted as internal storage. I recently flashed a newer version of the rom (a clean flash so wiped system, cache, dalvik etc) but now i have hardly any space as the systme storage is taking 73GB. i dont know how to get rid of it or access it, or delete stuff from it, the file manager jsut shows my pics and videos, and apps , there is nothign that should be taking this much space..

Welcome to Android Central! Did you format that card as Internal Storage first, and then flash a new ROM? If so, then the card is probably now useless, since it would've been encrypted to the previous firmware of the phone. I suspect that flashing a new ROM would've created a new "instance" of the phone, which means the encryption key for the SD card was lost.

Thanks Mustang, it is a Xiaomi redmi note 5 pro.
Its not a rooted phone as i need to use banking apps which break on root.
Hi, Welcome!

Thanks for info , if this was my phone I would start by removing SD card as Internal storage and keeping it only portable storage for music , video, pictures only and see how everything goes from there , also the SD card could be corrupt do you use a name brand one ? But start with what I mentioned first to see if things get straighten out .

SD Insight is the main way I know, but it might not work correctly on Nougat or above.

It's still important to know if the phone was flashed before or after the card was formatted as internal storage.

When i upgraded the rom i would have wiped the internal storage, the system, the cache, dalvik. The card seems to appear though, as the settings show 128Gb of storage, and when i remove the sd card and pwer the phone on i lose some apps which i guess are stored on the card automatically..

Hi B.Diddy, yes the SD card was set to internal storage and working fine, then i upgraded the rom by flashing the storage, system, cache, dalvik etc.
In Settings it shows my internal storage as 122gb available of 128gb (not sure why i dont also see the phones own 64Gb) but in the storage sub section, this is where i see available 32gb of 128gb, and the system storage is 74gb.

how can i try to remove the sd card as internal and make portable again?
Im using a miui based rom, RevolutionOS. which is android 9.

You would have to reformat the card, which will wipe all the data on it. When you reformat the card in the phone, it will ask you if you want to format as Internal Storage or Portable Storage.

i just went to through the format sd card but the phone has "erase all data" and shows two headings 1: all files on the phone and 2 Format mock SD card.
neither are selectable or unselectable, i only have option to reset phone. If i press this it asks for my password for my Xiaomi account. is it going to auto wipe everything at this point? or will i get an option to format only the sd card?

or should i format it within recovery instead?

Hmm, not sure about that. Show us a screenshot of the Settings>Storage menu. Are there any options there to migrate data on the card back to phone storage?

Here are some screen shots.

nothing it just sort of flickers (as though it is supposed to be selectable) I might have to try putting the password in and hoping i can then select it, just afraid of wiping everything and being in same position after it restarts

mustang if i remove the sd card it gives a message on boot up to say it is missing, if i check the storage i now have 45gb free of 64, and the system storage is now only 10gb.
so i am better off without he 128gb sd card :)
can i format the sd card and decrypt it any other way? i can get a different rom to try,, but i have work programs o nmy phone that'll ill have to be careful with an ensure i can re access them all again after
