I really enjoy it!

I used to buy flagships all the time. Realised I am only using my phone for Internet, photos and videos (no gaming at all).

So I bought a Galaxy A41 - really enjoy it! It's a tiny fraction below my previous phone's specs (LG G7), but it performs almost as well and also costs 1/3 of what I bought the G7 for (£200, compared to £600).

I may even try a Xiaomi or another budget brand for my next phone - really good specs and cost effective.

What do you think about budget phones?

I think they're great as long as you buy one with the right expectations like you did ;) My wife loves her Moto phones that I can pick up new directly from Moto for $150-$200 on clearance. She's not concerned about security or os updates (which are overrated and Moto phones don't get many of), has never had any issues with the phones or security (she's careful), and the phones look and feel way more expensive because I get them for typically less than half price :p

So yes I think smart purchases of budget phones can be a great way to go :D

Budget phones have been solid options for most people for a few years now, I think we've just hit a point where even entry level hardware is powerful enough to run Android and most apps smoothly.

I've got a Note 20 Ultra and I bought it specifically for the camera, for the most part I'd be happy using one of Samsungs much cheaper phones.

I feel like OEMs price the phones in budget, mid and premium tiers. Not an exact science but it buys you about one more year service at each step up. You have 1,2,3 year phones based on usage. In the end, I feel like you pay about the same per year, roughly, again, not an exact science.

Budget phones keep getting better and better each year. Also if you do not game a lot budget phones last easily 2-3 years these days. Also camera performance in daylight seems to be getting better and better with each year as well.

I will add a bit more here. You may not get full OS updates but at least for 2 years you will get regular security patch updates from budget device makers. Realme and Xiaomi are both really good about that.
