is there a way to root a stock ec05 from a zip file?

can i root my wifes stock ec05 from a zipfile on here SD card somehow? i can not for the life of me get my computer to read her epic, even after installing the driver 3 times. same computer reads my epic just fine but i am already rooted.

I don't think so. Here is why: to root you need to install busybox and superuser. There are means out there to make a flashable zip of those 2 files. But in order to flash that zip for root access you need clockworkmod recovery installed over the stock recovery and to install clockworkmod recovery you need to use odin or a one click method via a computer. Sorry dude.

Actually, if you download Rom manager from the market it would allow you to install clockworkmod. From there, if you had the file, you could do a back up of your sustem and flash your file.
Also, look for a thread called how to, I think it shows you how to root with out a computer. I know it's out there caue I did it like you're asking. Maybe look on youtube. Hope this helps.

Paul is on the mark today, I completely forgot about gingerbreak. You can't use rom manager because it needs root access to operate.

In addition to the thread link I left above, once you complete that process and sucessfully root and have CWM installed you can then by using a flashable zip in CWM, upgrade to ClockWorkMod 3.1.0.1 purple which is the most preferred CWM in use on the Epic 4g as of now.
