Why has Facebook replaced post privacy icons with a cog?

Since about mid-November, I noticed that Facebook shows a cog icon for all posts in my feed instead of the expected global, friends, friends except..., or only me icons. The problem with this is I do not know with whom I'm interacting with when using Facebook on my mobile device. Does anybody have any knowledge of why this changed? May I somehow change it back in the settings?

Currently running on a Samsung Galaxy S8 (SM-G950U), Android version 7.0, Samsung Experience 8.1, etc...
