Help! keyboard gone and I have passwords on everything!

Idk what happened, my toddlers use apps on my phone, hence all the passwords. The default keyboard is just gone, no numbers or symbols....just gone.
I tried to download another through google play from my computer and it installed just fine, but I can't get to my settings to make it default. Its been months, and I'm really tired of only being able to answer calls.

What happens when you go into settings to try and set it as default? Are you unable to get into the phone? If so I would plug it into a PC and pull off what you can and then reset it.
