I have a Kyocera Brigadier running Android 4.4.
I have a 2012 KIA Optima with the NAV package. My Lumia 928 running WP 8.1 would connect to the BT in the car and then I could send and reply to text messages through the BT stack of the car. No 3rd party app needed.
I cannot do this with the Brigadier. The car's BT won't even recognize that the phone has received a text, let alone try to read it to me.

Is there some setting specific to the Kyocera Brigadier that I can set that would allow it to talk to the car like my 2 year old 928? Thanks in advance.

Bluetooth is a pipe, it doesn't specify what data goes through the pipe or what format the data is in. Evidently the 928 and the Optima speak the same "BT Language", the Brigadier and the Optima don't. You could see if Kia has an update for the system. or if a later version of Android is available for your phone, or both.
