Why isn't my phone detecting the SD card?

Phone won't detect SD card

So I've had this SD card in my phone for 9 months and it was working fine..
My phone would sometimes not detect it if i restart it, when i restart the phone again it works fine
But now it's almost been a month and it's not detecting it , I've tried restarting the phone and switching in on and off, removed the SD card and put it back but it's not detected
Please help
I really hope i don't have to format it!

Welcome to Android Central! Remove the card and insert it into your computer. If the computer can't read it, it's become corrupted, and the data is most likely lost (although you can try some data recovery programs--http://forums.androidcentral.com/ambassador-guides-tips-how-s/500142-guide-recovering-deleted-files.html). This just recently happened to a Patriot 32 GB microSD in my Zenfone 2. That card was a few years old, but you can never really tell when a card will fail.
