No Wi-fi connection on my Galaxy Ace 2x (GT-S7560M)

Wi-fi connection icon is grayed out and unable to connect. Tried every conceivable fix I found in forums but still no luck. Phone is running Android version 4.04 and phone is rooted.

Did the WiFi stop working immediately after rooting and anything else you may have done after rooting?

No. Wi-fi hasn't worked for several months now. I just rooted my phone a couple of days ago with the hope of installing a custom rom (android 4.4). Everything else works fine just like before rooting. Have not been able to find a suitable rom and the ones I found make you enter stupid contests before you can download. That is getting ridiculous already. This phone is on a Pre-paid monthly plan and is basically used for texting only. It would be great if I could get back on to my home Wi-fi network again.
