Yesterday my Nexus 6p shut down and when I rebooted it I started experiencing a lock screen issue. Here is the nature of the issue. (1) The device boots up and prompts me to enter my PIN. (2) I enter my 6 digit Android PIN. (3) Android starts. (4) The device prompts me with a second lock screen which and displays "Password require after device restarts". (5) I enter my PIN again and nothing happens and I am prompted to enter my PIN again. It is a loop. I cannot get passed it. There is no "Wrong Password" warning. It just keeps prompting my for the password. Everything seems to be working in the background because I am still receiving my notifications on my lock screen.

As an aside I tried to do a factory reset but was unable to my screen showed the icon of the Android laying down with his chest open and a small red triangle with and exclamation mark.

Does anyone know how to fix this or have any suggestions??

I got the exact same issue. My phone seemed to shutdown due to low battery, however, it wasn't low. I charged my phone and now I have a password loop. I tried wiping the cache but looks like I will have to factory reset it.

Welcome to Android Central! Unfortunately, that sounds like the dreaded bootloop issue that hit a lot of Nexus 6P's. A factory reset might not help.

I am having exact same issue. Gave me low battery warning, but battery wasn't low, restarted, and now I can't get past the lock screen. It just keeps prompting for password, which is correct, because if I type anything else it says "wrong password." Fingerprint and voice do not work. Tried rebooting in safe mode, and clearing the cache - no change. Any other options short of factory reset? Is there an update that I can apply?

Welcome to Android Central! I'm not aware of any update that you can apply. It's a bad sign -- even if it works after a factory reset, I'd definitely look into getting a new phone. Unfortunately, your phone is probably no longer under warranty. Hopefully, you had your important data synced or backed up somewhere ...

I am having exact same issue today.
The phone ask for password unlock, and after enter the correct password, the home screen seems crashed and restarted, and ask for password unlock again (and again).
Clearing cache does not help.

I do not want to clear data, and hope to find a way to fix this.
If someone had the same issue and fixed, please help!

I workarounded this issue by doing a factory reset.
After running for a few days, I hit this issue again...
