Dualshock 4 connectivity problem w/ Bluetooth and OTG

I have been experiencing issues with connecting my dualshock 4 to android. I first used the bluetooth functionality, works for 30sec, lags badly. Used BT Auto Connect V4.2.2, When i hit "Connect Now", nothing happened. So, i bought a OTG adapter and all it does is charges the controller and pulls massive current from my battery, draining my phone quickly.
Any solutions? Im on MIUI 10 on Android 9. Thank you!
