Samsung GS5 USB 3.0 port?

So in the charging port of the Samsung GS5 there is a small port mixed with a big port and the charger that comes along with the phone only uses the small port, but my hard drives connector can connect to the big port, so here is my question, what is that for? Is it usb 3.0? Does it charge faster than the small port? Or is it completely useless?

Yes it is USB 3.0. What it usually is for is for faster file transfer. Perhaps if u are someone who watches HD movies and videos that are quite large, it will be a tiny bit useful since u can copy files faster. Not sure about the charging though. Also the faster transfer only works if ur PC has a USB 3.0 port (u can check this, see if it has a coloured piece in the port)
