S4 Freezes

So I'm posting for my friend, he plugs headphones into the S4 & it freezes & locks up completely. He tried cleaning the headphone jack, didn't work. Battery pull doesn't work either it's still stuck on whatever screen. Any suggestions ? May have to try a factory reset.

So it's still frozen even after a battery pull? The battery pull should force a reboot--is that not happening?

Nope, still on whatever screen it was on when the headphones where inserted.

That's messed up. Take the battery out and keep it out for about 30 seconds. Then put it back in and power on. Still the same?
