Dead Battery

Alright, I think my battery might be dead.
I fell asleep last night, and it must of had at least 50% or more (I'm thinking it could have been like 70%), and when I woke up the phone had been shut off with 1% Battery life. And it was sleeping most of the time with the screen off!

Now I know most of you would say get a new battery, but I'm planning on getting a phone next week (hopefully) so I'm not dropping 30-50 bucks on a battery for 1 week.
Is there anything else I can do in the meantime to get as much as I can out of it?

And this is a different problem, but I have noticed that my phone keeps in connecting from wifi, and even when it is connected, it's slow. Can anybody give me a clue as to why it's doing that?
