why does the new Jelly Bean software not allow me to text more than 30 people in my Gmail groups? Seems like Ice Cream had no problems with unlimited texting in groups. Help!

Not sure what his situation, and I've never had to text that many myself, but potential reasons:

Teacher/coach for field trip/game times. Boss needs to email all employees. Worker needs to email colleagues working on big project. Business owner needs to contact a group of clients at once to tell them "shop closed due to storm". Pretty much anything that involves a large team that needs to be coordinated, or informed with particular information.
