Hi all.

Got my nice new nexus 5 and its 3 weeks old and I must say its soooo damn good to not have all the stuff put on to other android phones. This phone is simple and uncluttered, love it.

Just one little niggle. When in settings then into "about phone" and then into "status", it shows your phone number. Can some one tell me why its not my phone number. Did not think much of it until I started filling out info on my google stuff and it auto entered some info incuding the phone number, which was of course, wrong.

Simple questions really.
1. where has this number come from.
2. why is it not my number.
3. how do i change it.

The sim is 3 network in the uk. Nexus purchased in the uk from google. i asked for my original number from my last 3 uk sim to be kept.

Thanxs for your time on this.

So far as I know, the phone number comes from your SIM card.

What happens if you dial your number from another phone? Does the Nexus 5 ring?

What happens if you dial the number shown in About Phone -> Status?

I have read some more on this subject and it appears to be not unusual, especially for "3" network SIMs. Has your SIM card ever been in a iPhone? That seems to somehow be related as well.

The two best solutions seem to be:

Insert micro-sim from nexus 5 into iphone 4/4s
On the iphone, go to settings/phone and view "My Number"
If the iphone is already displaying the correct mobile number (as mine did), select the arrow next to the number as if to view/edit
With the number displayed on screen, select "save" without changing any numbers
Remove micro-sim from iphone and reinsert it into nexus 5
In nexus 5, go to Settings/About Phone/Status and confirm "My phone number" is correct

or simply visit the nearest 3 store and request a replacement SIM.

Number is wrong for me and always has been on 3 network in UK. Think it's because I did a sim swap so its remained in the phone number that originally came with the sim. I asked them about it, they didn't have a clue. In the end just said it'll probably update at some point in the future. So far it hasn't!
