Bluetooth audio drains battery life?

I notice with Bluetooth speakers that the battery life drains much quicker when using it with Bluetooth speakers like the Sharkk Boombox. I listen to 3 songs on Google Play Music and the battery went down about 2% by the end of the album it went down another 3%. Last night plugin the speaker from the headphones into the AUX jack a entire album the battery only drained 1%. I do miss the ability to use the buttons on the speaker but if it is going to drain the battery I have to use the AUX connection.

What makes matters worse is that I end up having to reboot the phone as I was just eating supper and the battery went down 4% after I turned off Bluetooth.

A bluetooth connection is constantly sending and receiving info. That is one reason why the drain seems to be so much.

I understand that. I think that Lollypop drains the battery life much faster than KitKat did using bluetooth.
