Is rooting 4.2 possible?

Hello all, I just received a Nexus 7 for Xmas.It currently is running 4.1 but telling me 4.2 is available. I will root and run custom Roms soon, but not today. So my question is, is it safe to update and still be able to root and unlock 4.2?

yes, you will have no problem, rooting the nexus 7, the recovery images will be different for 4.2.1 should you decide do update before you root it, although i would unlock your boot loader(if you haven't already) before you put anything on it. This will wipe your data completely,so it is best to do this step as soon as you can. Follow this guide happy Christmas
