I'd have to disagree. I'm willing to wager that the majority of customers would look at the spec sheets and not care or know what each aspect does. Other than "oh that one has 4 and that one has 6." Those customers that Google is targeting are not nerds like us.

I think he was just using the spec sheet comparison as a point of reference. Your post actually actually makes the same point as his.

Becoming a lifestyle or defacto product is the Holy Grail for companies. To be a part of an identity, or used as the generic term for a broader category (i.e. Kleenex, band-aid, etc).

I think you're right here and I believe that Google is there as an enterprise. The word Google is a transitive verb now and that's brand awareness few companies ever achieve. Google is woven into billions of people's lives. The challenge is how do you make that brand strength resonate the same through hardware and I believe they are on the right track with the ecosystem as a whole.

If the "Google Experience" equals providing relevant answers and solutions quickly, the Pixel phones have their role to play in that for sure.

No matter what any of us discuss about the Pixel 3, in the end, we all have accounts on the Play store and no matter what Android device we buy, we're the same pea in the same pod.

On that note .. I think it's time to pour a Woodford Reserve and relax for the rest of the evening.

One thing I'm surprised by with the Pixel Brand phones, even more so with the Pixel 3's, is how controversial the brand seems to be. I mean, the brand has a market share in the single digits, yet there are so, so many people that have strong feelings in the tech community.

Hildebrand puts up a two point manifesto about why he may not buy the 3 XL and gets over 400 comments on that thread. Martonik puts out a "Pixel 3XL vs Note 9" piece and gets over 200 comments. Bader reviews the Z3 and gets less than 20 comments.

People seem to give the Pixels a lot of attention, even if they're not interested in buying them at all. I don't understand why the phones are so controversial. With such a small share of the market, I would think people couldn't care less.

Good question, I think they use the pixels as a measuring tool against other OEM

Fortnite has issues running on Android phones with 4gb ram. There were reports that it's extremely laggy on the Pixel 2 XL. Now for it to be fixed, it'll have to force close more apps in the background to run smoothly. Though clearly a better solution would be for these high-end flagship phones to have more ram.

Can only imagine with the 2018 and early 2019 flagships having 6gb+ ram, developers could be making larger, more memory hungry apps for Android.

The last sentence of this describes how resource management on Linux and Android works. What you're really stating, without being aware of it, is that Fortnite is coded extremely poorly for Android.

Also not sure if you know this is not, but most of the Samsung devices that it's released for have 4 GB RAM. The game's own faq stated that it's coded to support 3 GB RAM.

Also also, this tweet doesn't mention the Pixel 2 XL. But since the game is available on the OG Pixel, do your not sourced claims detail any issues on that device?

Also, also, also... This is a BETA. The purpose of a beta is for users to find and identify issues so that the devs can fix them. Having bugs in a beta is NOT news.

I think Google is stuck in a space between competing with the OnePlus's of the world and the iPhone's, they owned the lower end space when they had Nexus and then decided to change direction and challenge iPhone and Samsung but in my oinion have not and are not doing enough.

Andy Rubin had the right idea with the Essential phone and I think he wanted to create a phone in the original vision of Android. a stock experience on a solid well crafted designed hardware. If only he had nailed the camera/OS.......what a nice phone the Essential phone was, if only their was a PH-2......
