So what's the general consensus of battery life so far? I'm tempted to upgrade my Pixel 2 and have a 25% of plans until the 30th.

Obviously appreciate that every phone that comes out, people whinge about battery life but obviously don't want to go for something worse than I already have, albeit 2 years old

yep that's it. Read this on The Verge

The battery life on the smaller 5.7-inch Pixel 4 is substandard. I’ve gotten about four hours of screen-on time, which translates to about a day of use if you don’t push it.

If you were willing to stay in dark mode, reduce screen brightness, set the refresh rate to 60Hz, and stay away from battery-killing games, you could probably last a full day — but what’s the point? All that is a recipe for battery anxiety. It keeps an otherwise good phone from being great

I wouldn't mind getting 4hrs SOT, never really got to 3

Hahaha 4 hours??

If I could live with 4 hours I'd pick up another BlackBerry Priv to have almost the same display size as the Pixel 4, and even though the 808 processor really really sucks, that phone has a 3400mAh battery so with some quick optimization tricks I have gotten that phone to 5 hours SOT.

I got my phone setup last night. I went through my normal morning ritual before work and still had 100%. On my OG XL, I would have been down to 80%

My battery life has been fine. I took it off the charger at 900AM this morning, 7 hours ago.

I have 2 hours of screen on time, and I have 67% left. I see no problem getting through my days easily with this phone. BTW, I have the Pixel 4 XL.

There is no way I could ever fit 4 hours of screen on time into a day and still have a job. I have to work, and my job does not entail a lot of using my phone to watch whatever. I'm frankly amazed I got 2 hours of SOT today, I'm chalking it up to this being a new toy...

well just ordered a Pixel 4 anyway so fingers crossed. As mentioned assume that either way it will be fresh and new battery compared to a 2 year old battery especially as newer updates will probably demand more.

Well, those who use GPS on the way to and from work will rack up SOT real fast

You could get 6 hr or 2 hr since your use, apps and so many other things are different compared to that review. So you got to see for yourself what you get for your use.

I got my standard 4 on Tuesday. It's a fantastic phone. The battery life, however, ain't the best. I purchased and returned an iPhone 11 pro and really the only thing I miss is the battery life. Not sure why Google wouldn't forgo the camera hump and just make the phone a little thicker and put in a bigger battery.

So, I definitely plug it in before the day is over. But like was said earlier depending on usage is have to do that with any phone. Maybe not that iPhone though.

Anyway if you have a car with a charger you'll make it through your work day. If you have a battery pack you'll be fine on hikes ornlong days or whatever.

You have to realize that every phone has an Achilles heal. That iPhone had several with photography being what pushed me over the edge. The fingerprint reader on the S10 whatever it is they all have one...and ive had most phones

Honestly, so far, this one is my favorite. Right size awesome design great features etc

Received my 4xl Thursday and decided to give the battery a little test yesterday.
A couple of things. I forced 90hz in developer options, have everything turned on and have brightness on 90.
Normally throughout the day I'm plugging my phone into my car for android auto and when I'm at my desk I can plug in too. I never really have a problem with battery on any phone because I can charge virtually anywhere I am.
So, for yesterday, I didn't plug in anywhere from 6:30AM until 10:30PM.
I used google maps once for 15 minutes, without being plugged in and did some video chatting with my daughter at college for approx. 15 minutes on duo. Otherwise, it was browsing, texting, a little youtube, etc.
At 10:30PM, which was 16 hours unplugged, I was down to 4% battery and I had 5 hours & 28 minutes of SOT.
Again, I forced 90hz, had motion sense and every other feature going too.
I've had a 3xl for a year and I could tell as the day was progressing that my battery was doing better with the 4xl and I didn't really need the stats to tell me that.
The phone is terrific. It's smooth and the display is excellent. I understand the brightness complaints, but I don't have any issue with that.
I'll probably not ever test the battery again like that as I always plug into AA and rarely let my battery go below 50%.
Almost 5 1/2 hours SOT. I think that's quite respectable.

I ride motorcycles (no charger) more than I drive my car so I was very concerned about the battery. I got my 4XL on Wednesday and no battery issues. I charge it wirelessly over night and leave around 8:30am. Ride to work and use it as needed throughout the day (mainly email and texts with about 10 phone calls). Also, did a lot of YouTube and web browsing. After work, run a few errands and back home around 6:30pm. Never below 50% battery when I'm back home.

One night I fell asleep without putting it on the charger. Next morning, I still had 20% battery remaining.

Negative battery reviews aside (and those always seem to crop up, especially around release time, when the phone just comes out and bugs are still going to happen that may be able to be fixed with updates), Google has a very strong adaptive battery interface that I think a lot of people underestimate.

Even after 18 months, my trusty Google Pixel 2 had decent battery life. Sure, it slowed down with age; but it still got me through the day with moderate use. It served me really well.

Also, the first couple of weeks with a new phone will be a bit rocky with battery life. You're spending more time with it; installing and uninstalling apps; setting it up; and generally just playing with it. It will need time to get used to your usage patterns.

I say go for it!
