Battery life

Have noticed my Pixel2 battery being worse lately and seems to be since I've been charging in my car using AA. Not sure if it's a case of overcharging if that's still a thing

This is all great to hear about the smaller pixel. A day, or close to it, is not bad. I usually top my phone off in the evening before I go to sleep anyway so it is good to go in the morning. I'm probably going to go for it. I like the pure android experience, the timely updates etc. The short comings of the battery, I can overlook as I will have a charger and will more than likely I will probably
purchase a power bank for when I am out. The trade off does not seem like too bad of a thing. If I get it, I will keep it until the pixel 5 then purchase that one. Will be a perfect replacement for my original pixel which I am used to having to charge it multiple times a day anyway since the battery is old.

Not a power user by any means and have always been in the habit of turning things off IF they are not needed. Got that from my blackberry days and it carried over to when I purchased my pixel. I will not turn everything of as of to not be able to enjoy the phone but will watch what I have running and if I don't need it will turn it off or disable it

I'm getting about 5.5 hours of screen on time with my usage on the regular Pixel 4. That's with 90hz forced on too. I'm getting better battery life than my Pixel 3. So the doom and gloom about the 2800mAh is unfounded in my opinion.

Watch out with talk like that or you'll get stern looks from the Pixel bashers!

What's the best practise for charging the new phone? Any funky procedure recommended?
No just charge normally, when ever you want and how many number of times you want. Never think about it.

And yes someone will come and tell me I'm wrong. I don't care

I'm very happy with the P4 battery life. I guess my expectations are different from most people. It is much better than my P3. BTW, I have set the 90 Hz screen to always on. With auto, it is off most of the time. I can't imaging having it available, and not using it. As a comparison, I always take it off the charger before I go to bed. I use it off and on for various things during the night like casting podcasts to my Nest Hub Max, and when I get up in the morning, my P3 has the battery at about 80%. My P4 usually is at about 94%. I have no complaints.

The regular pixel and not the XL?

Ok I was shopping and tweeting for most of the afternoon.. There is nothing wrong with my battery life. 4XL

I’m struggling to get over 4 and a half hours SOT on the XL over a full day (7am to 10pm). Where as I’ve seen people exceeding 7 hours or more.

I’m not doing anything too excessive. Just Tapatalk, messaging and Fenix the majority of the time with a little bit of casual gaming thrown in (not graphic intensive games though)

I haven’t turned any of the features off as I don’t see why I should as they are part of the whole phone experience and a key selling feature of the phone.

Overall I’m enjoying the phone but went to a football match yesterday but took my 11 Pro Max instead as I didn’t want to have battery anxiety on the way home knowing that I would be using the phone throughout the journey (over an hour each way and then taking photos whilst I was there)

Hopefully I see an improvement before my 14 day deadline.

Notice how those who say they’re getting over 7 hours SOT don’t actually post their battery stats.

no way im getting near 7 SOT on my XL, lucky to get 5 honestly but I am pushing it just to see, normally i have access to a charger all day if needed and when I dont, I will have a battery pack to recharge if needed....

I have the XL and my battery life is just fine. It's better than I was getting on my S9 for sure. Normal usage with defaults. Though, I do have dark mode on. I can take it off the charger at 4am and it says it'll last until roughly 4-8am the next day, by the time it goes back on the charge around 10pm.

I think all the bad reviews concerning battery life were a big nothing-burger, and may have been due to pre-release software.

alot of the reviews blanketed both the 4 and 4XL in the same article yet the regular 4 was the actual phone reviewed. the 4XL has a bigger battery than the 3XL

People saying they are getting better battery life from their Pixel 3 are overlooking the fact that cell phone battery life degrades 20% in the first year of phone ownership. So obviously a year old Pixel 3 at 80% life, is going to get worse battery life right now than the Pixel 4 at 100% of battery life.

This time next year however, that Pixel 4 battery capacity will be at 80% of what it is currently now.

i would say actual hours used, charged, how its charged, how much its rundown, have alot less to do with that degradation also what temps it is exposed to, etc... leaving your phone on the dash in the hot summer sun everyday cooking will degrade the battery

Lithium-Ion batteries do wear down over time but each phone is used differently thus its tough to say that no phone with have more or less than 20% of dropoff in 365 days, that might be a good average number at best
