Anyone notice Gmail dark mode isn't pitch black

It's not like the complete black color like other dark themes on Android 10 and IOS.

Seems like a dark grey

Am I seeing this wrong?

Yes it isn't pitch black, it's more gray just like other dark theme option in other Google apps.

Yes the built-in stuff like settings, notification shade etc are pure black. Instagram is pure black and that's not Google app, every developer can implement their own shade of black. Some do gray like Google has on most of their apps. Some do pure/AMOLED black and some given an option to choose different dark options in the app settings.

It's all inconsistent

The power saving difference between gray and black is negligible, at best. They both save essentially the same amount over white. Personal preference, but I like gray. I wish the notifications and settings were gray, as well. As someone else mentioned above, there's no consistency and it makes dark mode look unfinished.

I don't mind the varieties long as it's some shade of dark. Dark or white, at least we have the choice now. My Yahoo mail app is a beautiful shade of blue. Looks way better than the google stuff.
