Chrome updated recently and now every time I search it puts and icon/link on the home page. It did this years ago and eventually stopped. Any way to disable this feature? It's quite annoying and I am unlikely to need that link again.

I've never seen that behavior before. Does it also happen in Safe Mode?

Also, in Chrome, do you have Toolbar Shortcut set as "Based on your usage"?

I did. Tried changing to new and also tried turning off. Made no difference.

I do not know if it does it in safe mode. I have never used it. This is not the first time. It used to do this a long time ago and then stopped after an update. Has been fine for a year or more. Just started up again.

I think it's worth testing in Safe Mode. You never know if/when a system update or an update to one of Google's core apps (like Google Play Services or Chrome itself) might cause some weird interactions with a 3rd party app.
