USA /Verizon is on 1.19.605.22 which was released I believe last week.

the US unlocked is on 1.53 like the European version is since I have the unlocked us version.

Going back through the forums, the 1.19.605.22 is an older version. There was a 1.21, 1.22, and 1.24. Looks like 1.24 was the update the reviewers got early on. I recall when the update came and the reviews improved some. I saw this from early may in Germany "From 1.21.709.1 to 1.30.709.1 .." and this 1.53 from 1.21 on 5/10 in US and now we hear of 1.55. Luckily each version seemed to improve things. Hopefully they wont be incremental or we will get the latest in 2019! I have to say, when the camera focuses it takes a great picture. I prefer pro mode myself.

Yeah just got an update to the camera app last night. And I realized, if HTC wants to update the camera why would they need to do an OS OTA update? Couldn't they just update the app for all the camera tweaks?

No, because you cannot update camera hardware via an app update through the playstore. The camera issues regarding bad focusing etc need to be addressed via a phone software update that directly affects the hardware.
