I don't think we'll have to worry about scratching the lens so much. Have a look at pictures 16 & 18 in the Engadget gallery (no way to direct link to them):

Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE hands-on - Engadget Galleries

In #16 you can see a small gap between the aluminum ring and the lens, and in #18 you see that the alu ring comes off with the plastic case part. Looks to me like this will provide some much needed protection for the lens. Sure, you'll still be able to scratch it, but it'll be a lot harder.

Looks like the lens will be easily replaceable

sorry for being off topic but anyone notice the lack of a sim or microsim slot? does that mean that sprints lte network won't be using sims like verizon?

I was actually wondering the same thing myself. It looks like the cover at the bottom of the phone comes off as well so maybe it could hidden there?

Unlike the EVO 4G, The plastic that covers the lens is slightly recessed and less likely to be scratched when the handset sits on a table.

I dont think i've ever seen any Sprint device with an sim or microsim. They use CDMA and they dont need sims.

One thing that I believe is worth mentioning with the replaceable lens cover is that this could open up the possibility awesome camera accessories. I'm envisioning replacement covers with integrated lenses, like fish eye, etc. We could see some cool stuff with this.

^I agree!

That would be bad ass. Is there a picture up anywhere of the OTHER side of the top cover?

Someone said there are vital "organs" on the removable portion of the phone....Dunno, though...

hopefully not, that would ruin my secret plan of being the top accessory maker for the new evo
