Ok so I used the HTC dev to unlock the bootloader. I downloaded the Rom manager app and when I go to flash the clockworkmod it gives me an error that says "error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands. Can some please help me? Just want to load a custom OS on my HTC Evo 4G.

I mean't custom ROM, if anyone can help me with this I'd greatly appreciate it. If you know of a way to get the custom ROM's without the ROM manager app that'd be good too. I know that my bootloader is unlocked now, I read somewhere that I may be missing the SU file?

Did you follow the directions at http://forums.androidcentral.com/ht...26-guide-rooting-phone-hboot-2-18-0001-a.html to unlock your EVO?

Did you download clockworkmod or an alternate recovery such as Amon-RA and install the custom recovery? You must install a custom recovery before you can install a custom ROM.

Once you have installed a custom recovery you can download Goo.im Downloads - Downloading su-bin-3.0.3.2-efghi-signed.zip, copy the zip file to your phone's sd card, and use the recovery to install the su-bin-3.0.3.2-efghi-signed.zip then install superuser and busybox from the Play store.

To install a custom ROM, download the zip file for the ROM to your computer, copy the ROM zip file to your phone's sd card, boot your phone into recovery by shutting down completely and then holding the volume down and power buttons simultaneously for several seconds, select Recovery, wipe both the cache and Dalvik cache at least two times, then select Install zip from sd card and select the zip file for the ROM you have downloaded. My preferred ROM is MikG 3.11 MikG v3.11 [3/9/2012].

Before flashing any new ROM, perform a nandroid backup and make sure your phone battery is at least 40% charged.

I used the HTC dev to unlock the bootloader and i followed all of the directions and that's all I've done with the computer, then I read to get the custom ROM's get the ROM manager app and I did that. Then I went to the flash clockworkmod and that's where I ran into the error message. I don't know how to fix it, I just want to get the custom ROM's that's already been made.

I like how both of you skipped past the important part of flashing CWM or any custom Recovery/ROM: ROOTING THE PHONE! You need a custom recovery for this, and the superuser zip folder. Need the link(s)?

As I indicated earlier, you will need to install a custom recovery tool such as clockworkmod or Amon-RA before you can flash a custom ROM. Complete steps #6 through #27 in the http://forums.androidcentral.com/ht...26-guide-rooting-phone-hboot-2-18-0001-a.html to prepare your phone. If you want to use Amon-RA recovery (recommended), download your recovery image from this link http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...nic-v2.3.img&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13436739640252 at step #8.

Once you have completed all steps in the Guide to rooting phone with HBOOT 2.18.0001, you will need to download the custom ROM of your choice, copy the zip file for this ROM to your card, boot into recovery, perform a nandroid backup, wipe cache and Dalvik cache, choose install zip from sd card, and select the zip file for your the custom ROM which you copied to the sd card.

If anyone is wondering how I did it I'm not taking credit but here's how. type "fastboot flash recovery rec" hit the tab button on your keyboard after "rec" and then hit enter. It should load after that, that's what I did after following something I read in another forum. Good luck

^Well, that's a new command. And sorry for the hiatus, been busy with life. As for links...let me get them.

SuperUser .zip package (flash in recovery)

http://db.tt/n4tr8lwi

Custom Recovery

http://db.tt/ZO0BVvBi

(By the way....you said you changed the name of your recovery, correct? Of course it won't read under "fastboot flash recovery "recovery.img", you changed the name, so you would NOW type "fastboot flash recovery "insert WHOLE FILE NAME" then hit enter.) Enjoy the links and for faster help from me, private message me.) Hope I helped a little. :)
