Stuck trying to recover Recovery

I'm stuck resolving an issue.

I accepted the OTA update to 3.70.651.1. Then I tried the Unrevoked method for rooting before I saw warnings that it would not work. Apparently, it went as far as installing ClockWorkMod recovery. But otherwise, the phone is working.

I'm trying to root using a different method, but z4root isn't working. I assume it may because of the unworking Recovery.

I tried to use the RUU 3.29.651.5 exe file. But it said it couldn't overwrite the current ROM.

I'm considering tyring the RUU 3.70.651.1 exe. But I saw a note not to use it unless that was what came with the phone. I don't know what the orginal ROM was because they updated it at the store.

Where do I go from here? I've been trying XDA, but the server says its over capacity.

If you did part of the OTA do the RUU for 3.70 and then use the updated root method.

I've tried the updated root method. The problem is z4root isn't giving me the # prompt and ROM Manager says I'm not rooted.

I got past the problem by running the RUU 3.70.
