I've been a longtime Sprint customer (Premier) and have a 2-1/2 yr old broadband card(using another line, contract was up last January) I use for my laptop when travelling for work. As Premier I'm eligible for a $150 phone upgrade. Am I correct that the EVO 4G could do what the bb card does now? I'm currently paying Sprint $60/mo. for this (unlimited)service and it looks like I could do the same for $30 w Evo. (plus add $10 for 4g service or whatever they call it.)
I'd like to get rid of the bb card and upgrade from a blackberry to the Evo.

thanx

Yes, that's correct. Technically, you could use a free tethering app without paying Sprint the $30 a month, although that would violate the TOS.

Yes, I did the same thing. Good thing is that work pays for my service and it saves 30 dollars a month. I tested the hotspot (and I dont want to root at this time) with 2 laptops and it works just as well as the usb broadband card. Go for it.

Even with the $10.00 "EVO tax" and the $30.00 charge for tethering, you will still save close to $20.00 per month. My wife is dropping her USB aircard and her Pre for just that reason.

I'd say go for it too.... but remember if you're not in a 4G area you will not be able to talk on the phone and use the data service at the same time.

I will be doing this. I have a MIFI card, and have been comparing the 2. I will be dropping the MIFI at the end of the billing cycle and paying the ETF. The EVO works great.

Worked great today for me. Two kids in the car for a two hour drive surfing the net on their netbooks via my EVOs mobile hotspot.

Technology FTW!

Unfortunately I do a lot of tradeshows and to sacrifice my phone to surf won't work. I really don't want to tell everybody that if they need to talk to me, " email me and I'll get off the internet."
