Problem Getting Phone To Sync With Car

Hi, I have a HTC Vivid running Android 4.0.3 and HTC Sense 3.6. I also have a 2012 Kia Soul and I can't get my phone to hook up with my bluetooth in the car for more than a minute. I'll sometimes receive a call and then after a minute the bluetooth will shut down and then I'll have to use the actual phone to finish the call. Is there something I need to do to get it work properly?
