Google Maps-What happened to the measure distance tool?

For years this has been a "Labs" tool. Now it seems to be gone...and the labs feature is gone. Any help?

I do not see it any more but purchased an app for I thing 99 cents that that does it better. maps measure also does alt. and area measuremnet

Think the Google Maps team removed the map distance measurement tool as it is less frequently used than the more popular features such as navigation, location search, etc. Hence, by removing the less popular features, the Google Maps app can be made less complicated and more user friendly.

To measure map distances, you can try the Appxis app (Appxis.com) instead, which is quite a good app as it helps users measure map distance easily both online and offline.

Trouble is if I wish to measure how long an area of heavy traffic is going to a separate app makes traffic disappear.
