Is there a way to change the size of a picture in camera?

Re: rooting... I'm the same way. I love my phone and really don't want to f it up ;)

For an app, how about this one? https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...uared_studio.resizemypix&hl=en&token=7iz9fOK8 I just search for "bulk resizing" in the play store. I haven't tried it out, but it looks like it will do the job and the ratings/reviews are OK.

EDIT: I just tried out that app and it works great! It even stores the photos on my SD card. I then use QuickPic to look at the photos. The one tip I have is that at the end of the initial tip slides, there's a "don't show this again" thingy... make sure you do that or you'll have to see the annoying tips every time!

For a camera app, I've tried 4 different ones and always come back to the LG app.

I used the Resize My Pix app today to shrink 3 images before emailing them, and it worked great! This app is now part of my "toolbox".

Will have to do some testing and compare open camera (res @ 1280x720, 90% quality, 163KB-700KB) to LG's app (res 5312x2988, 100% quality, 5MB-12MB) and see if its a huge noticeable difference in quality (strictly for email/social use/sharing)... Could save myself extra steps of having to resize afterwards like I have been after using LG's app

My first attempt was a bit bigger 1920x1080 @95% and produced a file about 500KB vs. 5000KB (w/builtin camera), but I decided to go bigger and less compressed just to be safe and more general purpose in case I shoot something good. I settled on 3264x1836 @97%. That got me just under 2MB. And I tested cropping. I captured a piece of the pic (about 10%-15% of it) and it was 600KB file size and quality was fine to my eyes at 1:1. PSP viewer said it was 13"x15" so it should be an excellent print at 4x6 or 8x10.

(Btw, shooting at 100% quality was read as 98% by Picasa properties.)

But what this tells me is that it would be real handy to have 3 camera instances sitting around for small, medium and large! My ideal small would be 400KB, medium 2000KB, large could be up to 8000KB if I was shooting landscapes or something really important.

Ah! if the camera had highly visible shortcuts for pre-set size/quality combos that would be perfect!!

You should suggest that to the developer! (ie: 3 to 5 programmable presets for resolutions (perhaps quality % with those presets))

I did! My ideal shortcut is a combination of resolution & quality in one click. As a matter of fact, it has to be combined in one click. If I have to start thinking to set 2 things (of 6 choices), I won't do it. I don't want to think beyond sm-med-large when taking a pic. I don't mind the time to preconfigure them in advance.

There's no option to change the resolution of pictures with the stock camera app? Wow, that reminds me of the iPhone. Why would they downgrade the app going to the G4 from the G3? :-\

LG's camera app provides 3 size options:
- 16:9, 5312x2988 (16MP), ~5+MB
- 4:3, 3984x2988 (12MP), ~5+MB
- 1:1, 2976x2976 (8MP), ~4+MB
(sizes may vary depending on HDR setting blah blah)

Well, technically, the camera provides 3 aspect ratios, not sizes. The size differences are basically a side affect. I would not call that a configurable resolution, which seems to be what folks want to control file size. 4MB-5MB doesn't make a whole lot of difference..

See below doc excerpt.

p.s. Still loving Open Camera! Super versatile. And I found a widget that takes an immediate picture without actually opening the camera app.

My G3 camera app has 3MP, 9MP, 10MP and 13MP options.

The 10MP and 13MP are just the two aspect differences, and the 9PM option is a 1:1.

The 3MP is a 1.11MB file. 2048x1536

It is shocking how limited the G4 camera app is. I wonder why that was done..?
