As far as I remember in a given category, a maximum of 500 (or so) most popular apps appear in playstore search. This means your application must be that popular, among thousands in the category. Try submitting your app to reviewer sites. Good reviews can boost the popularity of your app...

A few older Android devices, nothing top of the line. For budget reasons, I need to choose affordable yet adequate hardware (forums here can help with this). At development stage, I use emulators most of the time. Also makes it easier to follow version updates.

Definitely battery life, more or less for all brands. It is the reason why I still keep my old brick phone too. The developments there did not keep up with the rest so far. But there are news this will change soon.

All things aside, we need more announcements from them. Every announcement from Apple can be material for spoof videos. If it is a good product, people enjoy it anyway. If not, it's still fun. Win-win situation :)
