I use Verizon's insurance since it's built right into my bill. I think it's maybe $7 a month, which sucks, but my general rule of thumb is that I buy an insurance plan for anything costing over $600. People that insure $200 video cards and $300 televisions are just throwing that money away.

Bloatware allows subsidization and ultimately brings down the prices of hardware, so I doubt we will ever see it completely vanish. Even the Google owned Nexus 7 has some. It doesn't mean I like it, but at least mine isn't a 3G tablet full of more service provider garbage.
