It depends. What you will use it for? Regardless, I doubt the M8 will be supported much longer - that is always a case for switching to a newer model.

You can use IFTTT to trigger an event when gmail receives from a specific address, then play a specific song. There many other possibilities too.

I am not worried either. Sooner or later there will be a final update and that's it anyway (I believe things are better now than 3-4 years ago). When that day comes, the good thing about the M8 is that it is a (relativly) popular flagship phone, so there will probably be custom ROMs available...

Has anyone seen this on an unlocked phone? I got an unlocked M8 running 5.0.1 build 4.16.401.10 and haven't seen this yet. Am in Europe too, if that matters.

Use Dropbox or similar service to hold your personal stuff in the cloud, including photo upload. In that way, even if you lose the phone, you still have your personal stuff available.
