Hi. I updated to Android 7 just over a week ago. For the first few days after the update, my battery life seem worse. After that, it's now gotten better then what I had running Android 6. If you're having really bad battery life, it sounds like you probably do need to have your battery replaced.

I will get one eventually, but I want to wait and see how Android 7 behaves on my Nexus first. also, I'd like to see some real world use before I put down so much money.

I could be wrong, but I believe Google test open networks when it discovers them and decides whether it's fast enough. At least, that's how it's working on my phone on Project FI.

The advantage to Wi-Fi assistant isn't Google approve networks, it's the fact you can connect to any open Wi-Fi without worrying about privacy issues.
