Verizon raising the price for Unlimited Data Plan by $20 after November 15, 2015

Re: Verizon to raise the price of unlimited data by $20 in November

Given that 20X12=240, I'd personally rather put that 240 towards a phone on swappa.

So theoretically my bill doesn't go up for a year but if I buy a new phone it will?

I just got off the phone with a CSA at VW. She tells me that once the pricing for my UDP goes up to the $49 I can go on contract for the subsidized price for a phone and keep my UDPs. This is allowed due to the price increase she says, as she is on a UDP. My billing cycle is up tomorrow and was going to buy a LG V10 to replace my S5 and use the monthly payment plan, which you can also do and keep UDP. But now may go with the $299 in contract. It seems that if I am in contract it does not matter as VW will be allowing the UDPs to stay. The CSA says she is talking to fewer and fewer UDP owners and many are changing with the price increase as they really do not use it.

Any reason why I would not want to be in contract? They would not be able to increase again for 2 years right? Any other suggestions? Anyone working for VW see this as true or untrue?

Thanks for your help or suggestions.

Uh you were misinformed, sorry. Once the $20 increase goes into effect, you can only upgrade via device payments and keep your UDP.

Just found out about this increase. Business account with 5 phones, 3 have a grandfathered unlimited data plan. It's a very old account. There is nothing on my recent bills about this increase. My last statement date was 11/9/15. Only notice I see is this other increase: Charge for voice capable devices will increase from $0.95 to $1.23 per line for all eligible customers. The charge for data only devices remains at $.06. Could I be exempt for the new charge for some reason? We have one phone (2GB limit) still on a 2 year contract. Every other phone is out of contract.

Business accounts are not subject to the increase.

Well it would be nice if all the reps knew the same info. Oh well. I have two UDP lines and each use 75-150 GB per month so I will pay the $20 each and also pay the monthly cost for a new phone. When you live in the sticks you have some drawbacks for sure.

Even if I am willing to pay full price I cannot keep udp? That means no way to change to a used phone or any phone purchased at BB of Apple Store?

FYI -

Well after talking to 5 different VZW reps I was able to transfer a UDP that I purchased from someone to my existing account that already has 2 UDPs. It was a pain and I was panicking for a minute but someone who knew exactly what I was doing took the call and did it without too much hassle. He did have to do a credit check which was no problem. I paid quite a bit for the plan so I was in a tizzy all morning until it got done. The rep did say that "wow you talked to quite a few associates in this office today" but he processed it no problem. I really think that you have to get the right person before it will happen.

I am pretty sure that is not true. You will be allowed to keep UDP if you pay for the phone in full.

If you pay for the phone in full you can keep UDP. Also after the 20 dollar increase goes into effect, you can upgrade via device payments.

The AT&T offer has so many caches, it's not worth it. At least with Verizon, it's a straight forward price.

Yes but there's the "catch" of having to bundle it with other services. Not that great of a bargain.

It just varies from person to person. For my co-worker he already has U-Verse and an AT&T Family plan (4 lines 15 GB) with phone payments. He can now just switch to unlimited and pay the same price (or very close to it) without much leg work. Win win for him. Carrier plans usually never fit everyone 100%.

I said I would never leave unlimited but then I realized I didn't need it and saved $50/month with my new plan. Then they had a promo for double data for same price and I jumped on that. I barely hit 10GB/month and my wife uses around 3-4 and my father uses 1-2. I'm on a 20GB plan but doubled to 40GB.
