For the most part, your phone should be unlocked when you're using it (accessing voicemail) so I imagine most carriers have it that way. Some may have a secondary password setup by default at voicemail. If your voicemail is provided by your service provider then consider sending them an email at...

Call them and ask, it may very well be that they don't allow switching phones and the "free phonee" is locked to them
