Pattern lock glitch on 6.0.1, Marshmallow, moto G4

I changed the pattern lock on my Moto G4, it accepted the new pattern.

However when I locked the phone and tried to unlock the phone with the pattern it would not unlock.

I have tried many options for unlocking the phone using the Android Device Manager to no avail.

I have tried the lock your device and change password option but it says "your device is locked already locked with a password so we have not changed it" or words to that effect.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a work around?

Is it a glitch in the Motoraola or Android programming?

Thank you for your reply that was the first thing I tried but there is no harm in trying again.

I retired the old pattern again and no it did not work.

I think it is a fault in the Motorola programming myself but they won't admit that if they've left a glitch in the OS that effectively bricks your phone.

I wish I could help more, but if it's not accepting your pattern, and if it doesn't ask for your Google account information after enough failed unlock attempts, then I'm afraid you're stuck.
