How do I save all my contacts not using Verizon Cloud?

The last couple phones I've upgraded to, not all my contacts transfered over using Verizon Cloud. I went to the website and only half are saved there, with a good number of old contacts I've long deleted.
Now Verizon Cloud isn't able to back up my contacts at all because storage is full, and I have to pay to expand storage.
Is there any other way besides Verizon Cloud to back up all of my contacts before I get a new phone?

Export to phone, copy file externally.

Honestly, I'd export to phone, copy the file to a PC, and import to a Google account. That will always be solid on Android.
