Negative Screen Brightness?

I have a brightness widget called Brightness Level on my droid. It can set between 0-100% brightness. However some times it will show the brightness as -8% to -12%. This is during active use not during a time out.

If I set it to zero with the widget it will get brighter.

This means it is possible to go below zero but I can't find a manual method to duplicate this or an app. Anyone have an app that will do this? I find the screen is still too bright in a pitch black room.

I don't know any way of getting negative values for the screen brightness but I too agree that the screen is too bright at it's lowest setting when in a near-darkness environment.
