Xoom--will Ipad 2 announcement have an effect?

Just curious what the consensus is. I have not heard any sales figures, but the main complaint against the Xoom is price. If Apple releases the Ipad 2 with dual core processor, cameras, and more memory with same prices as iPad 1, can Motorola justify their price? Any other concerns?

I can see them dropping the price some and releasing the WiFi version at about $449-$499.

Motorola mght have a better device but people know the Apple name, they have to give the masses a reason to choose the better product. Price seems like th easiest thing to use.

I think there is a market for both the iPad and the Xoom, as well as the Blackberry PlayBook. I've had Android phones in the past but now use an iPhone 4 on Verizon. While I love the size and battery life of my iPhone, I've had to jailbreak it to try to restore some of the functionality that is standard on Android and iOS is sorely lacking. I tried to like the iPad (twice, actually) but couldn't get over the fact that it is a bigger but slower version of my iPhone. It really doesn't seem like it's capable of doing anything that my phone can't.

As such, I think the only way that Apple could derail the Android tablets is if they released iOS 5 and it, too, was optimized for use on tablets and provided functionality beyond what the iPhone can do. To be honest, unless iOS 5 is a huge step forward, I just may go back to an Android phone when I'm eligible for an upgrade in July as I paid full retail for the iPhone.

16gb wifi ipad2 will be 499. ipad2 will have the same prices as the ipad1.

as much as i hate to say it, moto needs to do some price adjusting. been watching the ipad2 event. its a nicely speced tablet at a good price being released this month. apple is on top of the tablet market.

Agreed. I hate to say it, but Motos $800 price tag is hurting.

i paid 599 for my 32gb 3g/4g xoom

if you want that from the ipad its 729

if your going to shell out the money for the 3g version your obv. going to pay for the data services

I don't see why moto's pricing is a problem

I hope it has the effect of forcing the price down to some degree for the Xoom and for a sooner release of the WiFi version. From the specs perspective, I don't see the iPad 2 outperforming the Xoom (at least based on what they've said so far), so it will boil down to the OS and the apps...and we know with OS it is a matter of choice. I do have to say, though, that Honeycomb is indeed a tablet OS and iOS really is not, so let's hope that makes a difference for folks out there - particularly since iOS 5 is not being released with the iPad 2.

Steve Jobs said:
"Now some folks are out there saying they're only a little bit more expensive than us. When you look at this matrix, five of these six are less than $799."

Steve has a point. The 16gb wifi model is nice. I'm personally not an apple person but I have picked up a Zoom just because of the price.

Dear Motorola,
Drop the price and get a customer.
Thanks!
