Windows Phone 7 Series...Phones

Ok so already a dumb name, but what do you think of Winmo 7, a challenge to Google and Apple, or is the damage already done?

Damage done and a year too late. A zune phone is not impressive. I mean that's basically what it is. Look at all of the screen space wasted with such large text! I could go on forever but I'll stop. I know it's early but major fail. IMHO.

I agree completely with the ridiculously huge text and icons. It's a waste of delicate screen space, especially with the emphasis these days with tons of multitasking and a lot going on at one time on a Smartphone. As much as I WANT to like a Zune styled interface for a phone, I just can't.

I thought it ran absolutely horrible. My Hero is way more responsive than that thing. I don't even know why HTC would tweet about it, its an embarrassment. Not impressed. Its even less intuitive than Android.

All the BB users of the world, now have something to cling onto. I personally didn't like, even if I said my Droid would kill me..that this is crazy.....yeah...However I think more business oriented people will be all about it. I do however like their Min bar idea for developing a phone, and thing google could adopt the same.

See I think most business users will be turned off by this new WM. Nothing like WM 6.5 at all. They've completely abandoned the hard core WM users.

I'm finding the UI to be different in a good way. Its not the sleekest but at this point they need something memorable to set them out from the crowd. I do think its a bit of a shock for older windows mobile users because its nothing like computer and may jump ship.

I'm so glad to see them take advantage of their vast xbox live members and incorporate into phone.

I think that it looks very cool, actually. I was surprised at the non-enterprise look of it. However, they lost me forever; I'm not going back.

I like it!

I really like what MS did, it was what they needed to do, trash the old and go for a new OS. I personally love the look and the minimalist interface that gets you simply and quickly where you want to be. No scrolling through endless icons. It takes the idea of grouping apps together (one of the things I miss from BB, FOLDERS) and sharing what they have to offer. Yes, these are things that can be done now, but only with apps, not as part of the OS.

All the same people who love to dump on WinMO because of its stoggy old interface are now suddenly switching their bitching to "it's too radical?" I like my Droid and was drooling over the desire just yesterday, but now after seeing MS's lastest work, I am going to impatiently wait and see. Since Android handles email with little skill (I have lost my accounts 3 times, and never know when I open an email whether the subject and body will match or not, not to mention the fact that I can't securely connect to my work mail) I am looking forward to seeing how this new OS matures until it is released.

I like it a lot based on what I've seen on videos although it absolutely needs more refinement, we'll see how it looks when it finally release.

A part of me hates it, and a part of me likes it in a unique way.

The UI is...well, "different". Thats for sure. But, IMHO, it looks amateurish at best. It flows with a level of professionalism, but if i didnt see it in action and was merely looking at a still picture, i would be asking myself "Wheres the rest? Is it finished?"

I bet if you dig deep enough you'll find Win 6/6.1/6.5 underneath it all. Not impressed, and I used to be an avid WM users a few years back and I would never consider a WM phone again now, especially running Windows Phone 7.

According to Microsoft, this is not the case; they say they rewrote the whole thing from scratch. If anything, it appears that they started with the Zune HD with a bunch of other stuff added, rather than starting with WM 6.x and changing the skin.

I'd say I'm impressed. Its def a step in the right direction. I wouldn't say that it has me convinced that I should care to wait for it, or get it. I still strongly like Android better, but I do feel Microsoft is at least making a step in a direction that will help them compete more down the road. If they continue on this path though, in a few years they may have a chance to really compete. However right now, its just a step in the right direction, but I still don't think it will be quite good enough at the moment.

Have they found the bodies of the Windows mobile team floating in Puget Sound yet

After many years, I moved from WM to Android about a month ago and the OS blows me away every day. Never going back.

But it looks like Microsoft has actually done some innovation here, and more competition will just spur Android developers to greater things and faster.

This is very true. Competition usually leads to better advancements for us, the consumers. Afte rall, that's why WM7S is even lookin better was the competition that made them change their approach. Its always good for companies to have a little motivation to make their products run more smoothly and feature the improvements people want.

I don't think I would ever go back to WM, but damn....the WinPho7 is pretty sexy. The interface looks good, different, and stylishly refreshing. I LOVE the look and feel of the new Zunes, and I like the idea behind the phone interface. Few tweaks I would make personally, but it doesn't matter bc nothing will keep me from switching from Android.

Like someone said above, a year too late. Good try Microsoft.
