Why is there such variability in camera picture quality?

Here are 2 pictures I took yesterday, both straight out of the phone, unedited. The Porsche picture was taken in direct sunlight, while the F-15 picture was taken in horrible lighting conditions. The sun was behind the clouds and the car and plane were backlit. Yet the details on the Porsche picture are HORRIBLE. Its so blurry and fuzzy, while the picture that should have been much worse is amazing. The fuzzy details are not quite as obvious on here since the site shrinks them so much on upload, but they are huge when viewed larger. Very frustrating.
