HOLY CRAP! totally lost using Kies. [fixed]

First time I've used Kies. On my PC, I went to my Download folder of my Photos (ON MY PHONE), where I could see thumbnails of dozens of items on my phone. I figured if I selected all of them and chose DOWNLOAD, that all of those items would transfer to my computer. INSTEAD, Kies no longer shows ANY of those photos. The photos are still on my phone, however.

I used Explorer to try to find any files that Kies might have transfered. No luck. I found a Kies folder with subfolders, but all folders are empty.

What is going on?? How do I get Kies to show the photos that are still on my phone and why didn't the Download feature work? Or was I supposed to choose Upload instead? sigh.

BTW, I found a tutorial online for kies and it doesn't show the screens that I have when I use Kies...
