How much data do people actually use?

Great 4g signal in my appt. No need for internet service so I just tether. I still have unlimited so I'm safe. Movies and YouTube I'm guessing are the reasons for the high data use

I use between 5-8 GB. Mainly streaming music/videos. Browsing the Web. I try to use wifi as much as I can.

with all of this being discussed, is there a way to get the carrier from throttling you after you reached your data cap limit?

If you are unlimited, you are unlimited. On Verizon though they are not as nasty about unlimited as say Sprint or T-Mo, ATT. Still the best way is to log out and log back in to whatever you were doing so you initiate a new connection if it suddenly starts to lag.

thought i read where tmo throttles speeds after a certain gb on unlimited, or something like that.

update: checked tmo website, says no throttling, but caps tethering at 2.5gb.

On the old old plans yes. Their unlimited was throttled. They now have 3 tiers.

Tier 1 - 500 MB of data then throttled down to slow speeds. No overages ($) on data.

Tier 2 - 2.5 GB of data then throttled down to slow speeds. No overages ($) on data.

Tier 3 - Unlimited data. No throttle and no overages ($).

I'm in the UK on 3uk with all you can eat data up to 1000gig. This is nothing as all this data was 'consumed' over a 3g network. Getting 4g this month in the city where I'm moving back to. Look forward to me hitting data levels of around 90 gig!

That is what I have heard as well. Once you hit a glass ceiling, they slow you down. You can still get all you want, you just can' use a big shovel to do it.

Not anymore if you choose Tier 3 Raptor007 :).

1st pic is from a previous cycle no slow down.

2nd / 3rd pic is today's data (new cycle) so far.. One from phone and one from T-Mobile's count...

4th is a HSPA test from within a store. No slow down :).

I can snag a LTE test soon.. Going to be in an area that has it here in Jacksonville.

I have a US Cellular unlimited 4g plan. 4g is truly unlimited but let's say I go over 20gig, they throttle my 3g..... As if that makes sense. My whole area is 4g though.
