Why is my bluetooth disconnecting and reconnecting during phone calls

Samsung Galaxy Note 5, 2016 Chevy Volt running Android Auto via USB Cable. Everything was working fine for a while and then recently bluetooth would disconnect and reconnect during phone calls. According to this Forum, Android Auto turns on Bluetooth when the USB cable is plugged into the phone. The disconnect problem seems to happen when the cable is plugged in whether I am running Android Auto or not.

It happened to me when I turned off GPS and location services to save battery. Since turning back on, it's been working fine again.
