First ever A+ device.

Seems that the Note 8 beat the iPhone 7 on white point, but the iPhone is still more accurate on both sRGB and DCI-P3 color gamuts. Note 8 gets brighter on auto brightness, not as bright on manual.

So now we have the Note 8 as the best OLED display on a phone and still have the iPhone 7 as the best ever LCD on a phone.

The Note 8 will get you better brightness, better display efficiency (for that screen on time), a better contrast ratio and more accurate whites for all that Nougat and Oreo white nonsense that Google added. Last year's iPhone will get you slightly more accurate colors (not that any of us can tell the difference between these two).

Re: Note8 22% brighter than S8

I have Had issues with the s8+ in very sunny situations. Hopefully the Note 8 will be easier to see

The note 8 is the best display so far period. I expect that to remain the case until the S9 comes out.

Samsung are so far ahead with their displays. No one will catch up for a while.

Apple beat the S7 last year, they're very much neck and neck. We'll see what Apple does this year, but it's not a night and day difference. We're talking differences that humans can't perceive in almost every category.

That is not what the data says. That's what the "rating" says, but it's not a black and white thing like you're suggesting.

They gave it the highest rating for any screen ever (A+). That means it's the best display they have tested this far. Obviously this is whith the realms of one review. I didn't mean it as if it were a god given fact.

Which iphone beat the S7?

The display on the 7 is rubbish.

The 7 plus display is nice not as nice as the S7 edge but it's good enough.

They don't seem that different by the measurements, the 7 and 7+.

Display - The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus Review: Iterating on a Flagship

iPhone consistently beats out every other major flagship display except on black levels and contrast ratio.

This is backed up by displaymate's analysis of the same display as well. Now, dispalymate did say the S8 was better than the iPhone earlier this year, however their conclusions were not based on the data they provided. If they have additional data that they based their conclusions on, that might explain it, however it simply appeared that they were mistaken. The Note 8 does soundly beat the S8 display and the Note 8 and iPhone are each better at different things. iPhone is better at color accuracy, Note 8 is better at contrast (duh, OLED) and brightness + white point accuracy (which is amazing).

Do you set the brightness to auto? If you do it will go 50% brighter in direct sunlight than you can get it by sliding the brightness slider all the way over.
