Let's see those 5G Speed Tests!

I found a thread on the Note 20 forum stating that if you have use T-Mobile and have an older SIM card that you need a new SIM card for 5G phones. The New SIM cards are pink and if the number printed on the card starts "R15" it is the 5G card, if it starts with "TM" it is an older card and should be replaced.

If you have a T-Mobile version of the phone, you should have received the new SIM card with the phone. If you were like me, and got an unlocked phone, you likely need to order a new SIM card. Apparently while the old SIMs will support 5G data, they can only use LTE for voice calls, they won't support standalone 5G.

Just a word of caution to those not on an unlimited plan, these tests can use a ton of data. This one for instance used almost .5 GB

I'm in Louisville Kentucky wonder if Verizon 5G is here yet I think I saw a map and the low band may be in some areas. Can't wait to get the S21. So with Verizon will you need a new sim?

I picked up 1 of the new VZN 5G sims the other day, seems to work about the same as the old sim did even when I was in a known 5G area of Memphis

I think it's been stated that a new SIM isnt't necessary to receive 5G on Verizon. There was the firmware patch to activate the lowband "nationwide" 5G in October, of ourse. Are they actually marketing newer SIMs as "5G?"
