My friend received a new S4, so she gave me her old S3. She didn't unlock it and I am on another network. Can I unlock it? Or is it basically worthless for me?

I think she has to get the unlock code form the carrier. Then depending on which carrier she was on, you would have to go to a carrier with similar signal.
