Re: how to find the number of contacts in my current list of contacts

Welcome to Android Central! It's easy if they're all Google contacts--go to contacts.google.com on your computer browser, and it'll tell you right there. If your contacts are saved to the local Phone account only, or if there's a mix, then it might be harder.

An indirect way would be to use Contacts Backup to create a backup .csv file of the contacts. You could then use any spreadsheet app to do a simple count function.

Open your contacts and pull down the menu and tick delete. Go to the top left and check selected and it will show the total. Then just be sure and back out.

PLAN B:

Alternatively, on the stock Samsung firmware, you can just scroll to your last contact in the Contacts list and see exactly how many you have. See screenshot...

I'd love to! My dad's having trouble with syncing his contacts, with various programs on his laptop saying he has different amounts. Do you have an apk?

Hello and welcome to Android Central Moshe Stone!

The reason that sometimes, differing numbers of contacts are reported is because sometimes people save contacts to their Google account, (gmail address), as well as to their phone only and even to their sim card. Not to mention contacts for, Whatsapp, Skype, FaceBook, etc: If in your Contacts settings you have set it to Display all... it will show all locations mentioned previously. Go to Google contacts on a PC... https://contacts.google.com/preview/all to see which ones are actually stored and sync'd to Google.

I've gone over it with him. We've pressed merge duplicates in Google contacts web plenty of time, then we resync and all his duplicates just come back on his Google contacts website. Strange things is, they're not duplicated in his contacts app on his phone. Google must be gathering the contacts data from other places too.
How do I fix it?

Welcome to Android Central! FYI, you're responding to a 5 year old thread.

Are you saving your contacts to your Google account or somewhere else?
